Lost world uses a new-ish model because it uses all the same textures as Gens/Unleashed but different proportions.įorces uses a new model for Hedgehog Engine 2. Generations/Unleashed use the same model as they both use hedgehog engine 1.Ĭolours uses a unique model because it is a different engine. Heroes/Shadow used the same model as it is the same engineĠ6 has a different model as it uses a unique engine. If you look at previous Sonic Games, whenever the games changed engine, so did the model:

Well, I have a theory for why the forces model was reused. Those are just a few of the things about Sonic Forces that I feel were changes made for the worse. In the Game Awards trailer for Sonic Frontiers I saw a lot of people complaining about Sonic's Model being reused from Forces. Drifting around a bend at full speed was EXHILARATING! And I don't like that it's a thing of the past. Failing to anticipate a turn and flying off the track because you didn't drift is a thing of the past. There's literally no danger or skill boosting in third person sections anymore. Sonic Team removing Sonic's drift ability in favour of automating twists and turns also really disappointed me. Never had this issue in Generations (or Unleashed) because there were always plenty of rings to keep the boost going. Too many times in too many levels I found myself without any boost (especially on rails) because there's no Wisp box or enemies to charge it, and the gameplay slows to a boring crawl. In comparison, boosting in Forces just lacks that inertia and feels underwhelming.Īnd while I'm on the subject of speed, I really hate how they changed the boost's energy requirements from collecting Rings to Wisp boxes and enemies. The perspective stretches and the camera pulls in close to Sonic. In Generations, when you boost as Modern Sonic (especially in the third person sections), it really feels like you're boosting at incredible speed. But I can't help but feel that Modern Sonic's levels just lack certain things that made Generations (and Unleashed before it) so enjoyable.

So I've been playing Forces for a week now, have completed it, and am having fun going back and trying to speed run and improve my times.
